The Backend Engineer for the Geo team at GitLab will design and maintain critical disaster recovery and replication services, specifically for candidates based in Bangalore, India.

In this role, you will work primarily with Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL to improve data verification, replication lag reduction, and failover workflows. The Geo team is responsible for essential infrastructure that allows distributed customers to recover data reliably and maintain observability. You will collaborate across departments including Database Engineering, SRE, and Tenant Scale to drive product improvements and manage incident responses.

What You’ll Bring

Experience building and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications in production
Experience with PostgreSQL replication, indexing, and performance tuning
