GitLab is seeking an Engineering Manager for Cell Infrastructure based in Bangalore, India, to lead a 0 to 1 effort in building control layers for multi-cloud cell provisioning and orchestration.

As part of the Platform Scale & Architecture team, you will establish the technical direction for cell-based architecture to support GitLab's horizontal scaling and AI-driven development workflows. You will lead the engineering team responsible for architecture, delivery, and production operations, while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to define reliability and cost-efficiency models.

Hands-on experience designing and building distributed systems using cell-based architecture
Operational ownership of highly reliable systems and incident management
Strong knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals like consistency models and sharding
Experience leading engineering teams in a distributed environment
Ability to hire and mentor senior individual contributors and engineering managers
Experience building developer tools or platform capabilities
